The foreign ministers of the G7, along with the European Union’s High Representative, have released a collective statement concerning China’s extensive military operations in the vicinity of Taiwan, as reported by the US State Department.

In their declaration, representatives from these nations convey “significant concern regarding China’s provocative maneuvers,” particularly the recent large-scale military drills around Taiwan.

The authors of the declaration emphasized that China’s “destabilizing” actions are increasingly common, which heightens tensions in the Taiwan Strait and poses risks to global security and prosperity.

“Members of the G7 and the wider international community have a vested interest in upholding peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. We are opposed to any unilateral efforts that threaten such peace and stability, whether through force or coercion,” the statement articulated.

The G7 called for a peaceful resolution of disputes through constructive dialogue between China and Taiwan.

The G7 comprises the United States, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Canada.

  • On March 10, China expressed its desire for “peaceful reunification” with Taiwan, stating it was prepared to exert every effort to accomplish this goal.
  • On March 17, China conducted military drills near Taiwan, labeling them as “punishment for separatism.”
  • On April 1, China initiated military activities in several regions surrounding Taiwan, involving its army, navy, air force, and missile units.
