The former Prime Minister of France, Edouard Philippe, has received an anonymous correspondence that included a spent bullet casing, as reported by the Leparisien newspaper.
This letter was delivered on March 19 and was addressed to the mayor of Le Havre, located in northwestern France, where Edouard Philippe has held the mayoral position since 2010.
Municipal staff designated for this task were responsible for opening the letter.
“The correspondence included a death threat directed at him due to his stated intention to participate in the presidential elections. A spent shell casing was included with this letter,” stated Havre prosecutor Souzic Guillaume.
Authorities have initiated an investigation regarding the death threat aimed at an official.
It is reported that Edouard Philippe previously received a similar letter in March 2023, which contained the phrase “Allahu Akbar” along with a white powder that was found to be harmless. The city and the mayor lodged a formal complaint.
