EU Foreign Affairs Council to discuss energy strikes, security guarantees for Ukraine, and sanctions against Russia on January 29

On Thursday, January 29, a meeting of the EU Council on Foreign Affairs will be held in Brussels. It will, among other things, discuss Russia's war against Ukraine, Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities, and security guarantees for Kyiv.

This is stated in a press release published on the website of the Council of the EU.

The meeting will be joined by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga via video conference, who will inform his colleagues about the situation on the front and the country's most urgent needs.

They will separately discuss Russia's attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector and the necessary assistance for its restoration, and will also focus on “US-led peace talks.”

“At the European Council meeting on 18 December 2025, the 25 EU leaders welcomed the ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine and called on Russia to agree to a full, unconditional and immediate ceasefire, which Ukraine continues to adhere to, and to start meaningful negotiations for a just and lasting peace,” the press release said.

In addition, EU foreign ministers will discuss security guarantees and further support for Ukraine, as well as increasing pressure on Russia, including through the introduction of new sanctions.
