Drone debris fell in Romania during Russia's night strike on Ukraine

During the massive strike by the Russian army on Ukraine in the Romanian city of Galati on the morning of April 25, the wreckage of a drone was discovered.

This was announced by the Romanian Ministry of Defense.

They said that radars detected the movement of drones “near the country's airspace.”

“Two British Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, assigned to an enhanced airspace patrol mission, were scrambled at 2:00 a.m.,” the report said.

As noted, the fighters “established radar contact with the target,” which was in Ukrainian skies 1.5 km from the city of Reni. The pilots had permission to shoot down the UAV. However, it is not specified by whose forces the detected UAV was shot down.

The department also informed that residents of the city of Galati reported at 2:31 a.m. via the emergency service 112 about the fall of an “object” in the Bariera-Traian area. Currently, Romanian special teams from the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU) and other structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) are conducting an investigation at the scene.

According to preliminary data, the fall of the UAV debris damaged an outbuilding and an electrical pole. No injuries were reported.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense condemned such “irresponsible actions by the Russian Federation”, emphasizing that “they pose a new challenge to regional security and stability in the Black Sea region.”

“Such incidents demonstrate the Russian Federation's disregard for international law and endanger not only the safety of Romanian citizens, but also the collective security of NATO,” they added.

The Romanian Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador over the incident.

“The Russian Federation has violated the sovereignty of Romanian airspace with new irresponsible actions that may endanger the safety of the population. This is an irresponsible and provocative act that violates the basic principles of international law. For over four years, Russia has been waging an illegal war against Ukraine. This is not only a cruel imperialist act of conquering a sovereign neighbor, but also a violation of regional and global peace and security,” the Romanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
