Canada extended the program for Ukrainians: you can live and work until 2027

Canada has extended the CUAET program, which allows Ukrainians to legally live and work in the country. Ukrainians who arrived before March 31, 2024, can now apply for a three-year extension of their permit until March 31, 2027.

This was announced in Ottawa by Canadian Immigration Minister Lena Matledge Diab, Ukrinform reports.

Diab announced that Canada continues to support Ukrainians forcibly displaced by Russia's war against Ukraine through the Canada-Ukraine Emergency Travel Authorization (CUAET).

“The program allows Ukrainians to work and participate in the economic life of Canada while they are in the country,” Diab noted.

Ukrainians who arrived in Canada under the CUAET program before March 31, 2024, can now apply for a long-term three-year extension of their residence and work permit until March 31, 2027.

The CUAET program was introduced in early March 2022 and allowed Ukrainians to obtain temporary work and residence permits. During this time, more than 298,000 Ukrainian asylum seekers have arrived in Canada. The exact number of Ukrainians still in Canada is unknown, as the country does not keep records of departures.

The Canada-Ukraine Emergency Travel Authorization is a special Canadian government program introduced on March 17, 2022, following the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
