Warming at the front – a military man told how fighting changed in the spring

Main points

  • In the winter, the Russians faced difficulties due to weather conditions and logistical problems, which complicated their offensive operations.
  • As temperatures warm, Russian troops are changing tactics, including increasing the use of drones and light vehicles for advancement.

Even Russian military leaders are forced to admit that the occupation army has certain problems, and Ukraine's defenses are not always able to be penetrated. Interestingly, the enemy says that it is the Defense Forces that are complicating the offensive, and not “NATO troops,” as previously stated.

A certain fatigue of the occupiers is felt at the front. As Major Volodymyr Nazarenko, deputy commander of the “Force of Freedom” battalion of the 4th “Rubizh” brigade of the Ukrainian State Guard, noted to Channel 24 , the winter of 2026 was indeed difficult.

Why was it more difficult for Russians in winter?

Due to weather conditions, severe frosts, fighting in the winter was especially difficult for the Ukrainian military. There were also difficulties with logistics, household arrangements. Despite this, for the attacking side, everything was even more complicated.

It is even more difficult for the enemy to pull up resources, to provide them. Facts such as frostbite constantly happened to the enemy, because Russia does not worry about its soldiers. For them, it is the cheapest disposable resource,
– the soldier emphasized.

What is happening now means that the enemy had other reserves of manpower, other units that Russia is using with the onset of better weather. The occupiers are trying to build up their forces, form new assault groups, and send them on the offensive.

In most cases, they encounter strong defenses and are destroyed very quickly. Now we are talking about the successful work of the Defense Forces in the so-called kill zone, that is, quite far from the front lines. This does not allow the enemy to advance and achieve its goals every day.

It is important to understand that as weather conditions change, the enemy's tactics may change. For example, flight conditions are different, the enemy may use other types of UAVs, reconnaissance drones,
– added Volodymyr Nazarenko.

In such conditions, Ukrainian military personnel must be smart and resilient, because we are defending our land and must stand to the end.

Pay attention! It has become noticeable that the Russians have changed their offensive tactics with the warming. The use of drones has increased, while the use of equipment has decreased. It is difficult to move around, it is slow-moving and well-visible. In addition, there is still a lot of moisture in the fields.

What has changed on the front with warming?

  • The Ukrainian military expects an increase in offensive operations. The reason is that with warming, the enemy may more actively use light equipment, motorcycles, such cases are already being recorded. However, in the spring, the number of casualties from the Defense Forces will also increase.
  • Interestingly, the occupiers used poor visibility to advance. Covered by fog and severe frost, they tried to advance. Now the weather factor has changed, the Ukrainian military will be able to detect the enemy faster.
  • It is also important that after the warming, the occupiers did not return to mechanized assaults, they rely on the advancement of small infantry groups and infiltration. The equipment is mostly used for transportation.
