His Holiness Patriarch Filaret, who died on March 20, has not yet been buried. But the burial place has already been named – it is St. Volodymyr's Cathedral in Kyiv.

Metropolitan of Bila Tserkva and press secretary of the OCU Yevstratiy told journalists why this is so. This is reported by Suspilne. The body of the patriarch is now in another Kyiv cathedral, St. Michael's Golden-Domed Cathedral.

Why will Filaret be buried in St. Volodymyr's Cathedral?

The Orthodox Church of Ukraine explained: Filaret led services precisely in the Volodymyr Cathedral. Moreover, he did so for almost 60 years.

There is a tradition to bury hierarchs of the Orthodox Church in the church. His Holiness Patriarch Filaret served in the Vladimir Cathedral with a short break since 1960, that is, for more than 6 decades. This is more than half of the entire historical time of the existence of the Vladimir Cathedral. And it is quite obvious that he deserves that his final resting place be in the Vladimir Cathedral,
– said the spokesman for the OCU.

Reference: St. Volodymyr's Cathedral was built in 1862 – 1882. It is located in the center of Kyiv on Taras Shevchenko Boulevard.
