Wasteful: the main reasons why you shouldn't stick protective films on your smartphone
A film glued to the screen is the most common way to “protect” a smartphone. Some people glue it on their own, while others get it ready-made: some manufacturers already apply the film at the factory (or at least put it in the kit, “tempting” the user to stick it on immediately after unpacking the gadget), informs Ukr.Media.
But is it really that useful?
More likely not. In fact, the film can only protect the smartphone glass from minor scratches. For example, you can get them if you carry the phone in the same pocket or in a bag with something else (small items, keys, plastic card, wallet, pen). The film will definitely not protect against any more serious damage and falling to the floor.
But you will have to change it often – a poor-quality film can start to bubble, and its edges can quickly peel off, which immediately spoils the appearance of the smartphone. If you don't want to walk around with such a screen, you will have to update the film about every 3 months.
And another argument “against” the film is tactile sensations. The oleophobic coating of a good protective glass is simply pleasant to the touch, it is not much different from the oleophobic coating of the screen. And the film completely deprives this feeling: the finger slides much worse on it. Of course, you can take an advanced film with an oleophobic layer, but why, if it is already close to normal glass.
To those who stick a film to preserve the cosmetic appearance of the phone for future sale: do you believe this yourself? There are a lot of cool new products on sale now with more than adequate price tags. If you don't have an iPhone or some top flagship, then it's unlikely that anyone will want to buy it off the shelf. Especially if you've been carrying the device for 2-3 years – by that time it will already be outdated both morally and in terms of “hardware.”
If you want to protect the screen, then you should stick only the glass, without any options, and consider the film as a temporary solution until you buy it. Glass costs a little more (of course, if you don't take it from communication salons and don't pay extra for a sticker), but it saves not only from scratches, but also from more serious damage. And this is really important, because replacing the screen in any smartphone is very expensive. And you will have to change the glass much less often, so in the future of 1-2 years such protection will be even more profitable.
