Spotify is best known as a streaming service, but sometimes the company decides to surprise with something unusual. This time, it teamed up with the brand Liquid Death to release a limited edition device that no one expected to see in the gadget world.
What did Spotify and Liquid Death come up with?
The result of the collaboration between the two companies is the Eternal Playlist Urn, a Bluetooth speaker shaped like a funeral urn. The device isn't designed to hold ashes: it houses a wireless speaker built into the lid. According to Spotify, it's “the world's first urn speaker capable of playing music,” writes Gizmochina.
The urn measures 18 centimeters wide and about 29 centimeters high. Only 150 copies will be sold, and only in the United States, Spotify notes on its website. Each copy costs $495.

After purchasing the device, the owner can use a new tool – the Eternal Playlist generator. To do this, you need to answer a few questions: for example, “What is your eternal vibe?” or “What is your favorite ghost sound?”.
Based on your answers and previous Spotify listening history, the service creates a personalized playlist that can be synced to your speaker. You can also share the playlist with friends and family.

Spotify already had experience with hardware devices, although not very significant.
- In 2022, the company, together with IKEA, released a portable LED speaker with support for quick playback from Spotify.
- Before that, there was the Car Thing, a car accessory without built-in streaming support. However, the Car Thing was discontinued in 2024, and Spotify still doesn't have its own full-fledged smart speaker.
Liquid Death, meanwhile, is a canned water brand that has long earned a reputation for provocative and darkly humorous marketing. The company previously produced, among other things, a life-size coffin-shaped refrigerator that garnered over 800 bids at auction and sold for $68,200. The speaker urn fits perfectly into this logic – limited edition, unusual concept, and a bit of dark humor.
