Mockups of a new Samsung foldable smartphone with a wider body and support for magnetic charging have appeared online. The device differs from most current models and may receive a new screen format.

Samsung is preparing a new version of its foldable smartphone Galaxy Fold with a wider body – and this is no longer just a rumor. Images of so-called dummy models have appeared on the Internet, which allow us to evaluate the design of the future device even before its official announcement. This is reported by Digitaltrends .

What did the leak show and how is this smartphone different?

Judging by the leak, the new product will have a completely different form factor than most modern foldable smartphones. While manufacturers, including Google, have previously moved towards elongated models, Samsung seems to be returning to a wider format. When unfolded, such a smartphone should provide more comfortable use, closer to a tablet.

The mockups show a passport-like design – the device looks compact when folded, but is significantly wider than the standard Galaxy Z Fold . The dual camera module is visible on the back. According to preliminary data, the internal display will have a diagonal of 7.6 inches with an aspect ratio of 4:3, which further emphasizes its orientation towards convenient operation in the unfolded mode.

According to 9to5google , this format may appeal to those looking for a balance between compactness and a large screen. When folded, the smartphone looks comfortable enough to use with one hand, which is not always typical for large foldable devices.

However, the most interesting detail is not the design itself, but a detail that was spotted on the mockups . It is a circular element in the center of the case that resembles a magnetic mounting system similar to Apple's MagSafe. This could mean support for the Qi2 standard .

Qi2 is a new wireless charging standard that uses magnets to precisely position your smartphone on the charging surface. This not only improves charging efficiency, but also opens up possibilities for accessories, from cases to holders and external batteries.

So far, only a few companies have started implementing Qi2 , and Samsung has not yet committed to it. If the leak is confirmed, this could be an important step for the brand's accessory ecosystem.

Overall, the new wide foldable smartphone looks promising. However, the question remains whether it will become a full-fledged part of the lineup or whether it will repeat the fate of some experimental Samsung models that did not receive development after release.
