Baking soda, due to its chemical properties, acts as an effective deodorizer and natural detergent. It can be used when washing clothes: baking soda removes odors and stains.
Washing with baking soda
Baking soda enhances the effect of the detergent you use and softens the fabric.
In addition, baking soda disinfects the washing machine.
Laundry detergent is a synthetic product that, at a minimum, can cause an allergic reaction.
And baking soda helps to create foam and soften the water (balance the pH level). Baking soda can also act as a fabric conditioner. Simply add half a cup of baking soda to the water during rinsing.
Sodium bicarbonate will help remove even old stains on fabric.
Before washing, soak clothes in room temperature water with baking soda, and the fabric will retain its bright color and white clothes will not turn yellow.
Soaking
If there is a persistent odor on your clothes or towels, it makes sense to soak them overnight in a baking soda solution.
You will need:
- Baking soda — 200 g,
- Water – 4 liters.
Procedure:
- Dissolve baking soda in water in a wash basin.
- Lower the items into the water so that they are completely covered.
- Leave overnight.
- The next day, wash as usual.
Washing with sodium bicarbonate in a washing machine
- Pour half a cup of baking soda into the detergent container.

Removing stains
Baking soda can act as a natural stain remover.
You will need:
- Baking soda – 1 tbsp. spoon,
- Water.
Procedure:
- Dissolve baking soda in water until it forms a paste. You can replace the water with hydrogen peroxide or vinegar.
- This paste will tackle stains from grease, food, etc.
- Apply the paste to the entire surface of the stain and rub in a little.
- Set aside for 15 minutes for reaction.
- Stubborn stains can be rubbed with a toothbrush. Rubbing delicate fabrics is not recommended.
- Rinse the item thoroughly in warm water.
