Motorola is expanding the Edge 70 series to include a large number of models with almost identical names, an approach that could make it difficult for buyers to choose and even confusing for sellers.
Motorola hasn't been known for its original smartphone names for a long time, but in the past the company at least tried to clearly separate its models. For example, the differences between the Moto G series were easy to understand thanks to separate names and features. This is what Androidpolice writes.
Why has the Edge 70 lineup become so confusing?
The situation is different with the new Motorola Edge 70 line. In late 2025, the company introduced a base model aimed at the slim body and above-average segment. It competes with devices like the Google Pixel 10 and Samsung Galaxy S25 FE .
Later, two more versions appeared – Edge 70 Fusion and Fusion+. However, they went almost unnoticed, in particular due to the overlap with major events like Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
And the company is not stopping there. According to insider Evan Blass , four more models are to be added to the series. Among them are the Edge 70 Pro, Pro+, Pro Lite, as well as the top-end version of the Edge 70 Ultra , which may be called Motorola Signature in some regions.
If this data is confirmed, the total number of smartphones within one series will reach seven . This is significantly more than most competitors, and creates a risk of confusion.
According to the logic of the names, the Pro models should correspond to the flagship level, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S26 line and its variations, while the Ultra will be a direct analogue of top-end devices like the Ultra versions of competitors.
However, even if this structure looks clear on paper, in practice it can create problems . It will be difficult for buyers to quickly understand the difference between the models, and for sellers to explain it.
Overall, Motorola's strategy of expanding one series to so many variants looks risky . Instead of a clear positioning, the company could end up with an overloaded lineup where individual models get lost in the background of others. For a brand that is trying to regain a strong position in the market, this is not the most obvious path.
