On Wednesday, February 18, the world experienced a massive technical outage affecting a number of key internet services. Problems occurred simultaneously at Google, Cloudflare, and Amazon Web Services.

The outage affected users in various countries and affected the operation of digital services, according to the outage tracking service Downdetector.

What is known about the technical collapse?

Due to the crash, users reported:

  • unavailability of sites;
  • failures in cloud services;
  • problems with authorization;
  • slow page loading;
  • disruptions in the operation of online platforms and applications.

Because Cloudflare and AWS power much of the internet infrastructure, the outage had a global impact and affected thousands of services around the world.

At the time of the first reports, the official reasons for the outage were not disclosed. The companies began technical work to stabilize the systems and restore access to services.

Even short-term problems in the operation of global cloud platforms can cause massive disruptions, because a significant part of modern websites, applications, and digital services run on their infrastructure.

A network outage can affect both businesses and consumers. With some online services temporarily unavailable, some countries have reported disruptions to platforms, banking services, and digital tools.

Most systems have since gradually resumed operation, and companies are continuing to monitor the situation to avoid further disruptions.

Which platforms have experienced recent large-scale outages?

  • On February 16, the social network X experienced a major outage. Users reported that the feed, notifications, and other features of the service were unavailable. When trying to log in, some users saw the logo on a black background, while others had access to the latest version of the feed, which was loaded into the application cache. No updates were downloaded.

  • A malfunction was detected in the ChatGPT operation. Complaints were received from users from all over the world. The largest number of complaints about interruptions in the chatbot's operation began to arrive on February 3 after 10:00 PM.

  • Temporary technical difficulties have arisen in the operation of the Reserve+ mobile application. Currently, problems with access to the service have been recorded, which makes it impossible to obtain information from the registers. This has led to a limitation of the service's functionality, and the main digital documents remain inaccessible to those liable for military service.
