Lviv is still one of the main testbeds for 5G technologies. This time, the expansion of the fifth-generation network touched one of the most important points of the city, where the communication load is traditionally extreme due to the constant flow of people.
Where to look for 5G in Lviv?
Vodafone has announced the launch of open testing of 5G technology at the Main Railway Station. The choice of this location was not accidental, as the station is one of the busiest logistics centers in the city, where the concentration of active mobile Internet users reaches critical levels, writes 24 Kanal .
The main problem of large railway hubs is peak loads. When several trains, in particular high-speed Intercity trains, arrive at the platforms at the same time, hundreds of people instantly activate their smartphones. Passengers urgently need to order a taxi, use navigation maps, download work documents or simply contact their relatives.
At such times, traditional networks of previous generations can operate unstable due to congestion. 5G technology solves this problem with its ability to serve a huge number of devices per square kilometer. This allows each user to be provided with a stable signal and high speed without any delays.
The technical part of the project is implemented on the basis of equipment from the leading European supplier Nokia. Testing is taking place in the 3500 megahertz range. In addition to the railway station, the coverage area in Lviv already covers the historical center, adjacent neighborhoods and the territory of Lviv Polytechnic University.
It is worth noting that Lviv is not the only city where such tests are being conducted. Similar test zones have already been deployed in Kharkiv and Borodyanka.
The dynamics of user engagement with the new technology is impressive. Since the start of testing on January 12, more than 307 thousand unique subscribers have already connected to the fifth generation network.
Network statistics confirm the effectiveness of the new technology: in real-world conditions under significant load, the maximum recorded speed at the base station reached an incredible 1.9 gigabits per second.
How to connect to 5G?
For subscribers, the process of switching to the new communication standard is as simple as possible. Vodafone provides the opportunity to test 5G without the need to connect any additional services or change the tariff plan. All traffic in the fifth generation network is charged according to the current 4G/LTE conditions.
To use the service, you need a modern smartphone with 5G support and a suitable SIM card. It is quite easy to check the readiness of your card: if it supports the 4G standard, it will automatically work in the 5G network. You can also use the quick check by dialing *222#, or simply pay attention to the network type icon at the top of the screen.
As for smartphones, to automatically connect to 5G, the appropriate network type selection option must be active in the device settings. To do this, go to the settings, select the menu responsible for mobile networks, go to the menu of a specific SIM card, then select 5G in the network type menu.
The successful completion of the tests in Lviv may become an impetus for further deployment of the technology in other major cities in the country, which will open up new opportunities for the digital development of the entire state.
