Yannick Sinner breaks Novak Djokovic's record for ATP 1000 tournament winning streak on way to 'sunny double'

World number two Yannick Sinner extended his winning set streak record after surpassing the achievements of former world number one Novak Djokovic.

Sinner began a winning streak at ATP 1000 tournaments in November 2025, winning the Paris Masters title in five matches. Sinner continued his winning streak at the Indian Wells ATP 1000 tournament, where he also won the title in six matches.

Thus, Sinner approached the Miami Masters after 11 winning matches, in which he did not drop a single set. At the start of the tournament, the Italian defeated the tennis player from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Damir Dzumgur, repeating Djokovic's record for the series at the ATP “thousands” (24). Defeating the Italian Corentin Moutet in straight sets, Sinner updated the Serb's record.

Sinner's next match was against American Alex Mickelsen, ranked 40th in the ATP rankings. The Italian won the first set (7:5), and although he was down 2:5 in the second and was one step away from losing the winning streak, he made a comeback and brought the game to a tiebreak, which he won 7:4.

With the win over Mickelsen, Sinner extended his winning streak to 28 sets. The Italian also needs three more wins in the tournament to complete the “sunny double” of winning Indian Wells and Miami in the same season. The last time this happened was Swiss Roger Federer in 2017.

The world number two has only won once in Miami so far – in 2024 (he lost the finals in 2021 and 2023). However, this year's victory in Indian Wells was his first in his career.

The Italian is currently ranked number two in the world after Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz snatched his long-standing lead from him, and Sinner is more than 2,000 points behind the leader.

Sinner will play in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Miami for the fifth time, his next opponent is American Frances Tiafoe. The Italian has won four of the five previous head-to-head meetings against the American tennis player.
