“Underestimated the level.” The silver medalist of the 2022 Olympics in biathlon did not pass the qualification for the 2026 Olympics

Norwegian snowboarder Mons Reisland failed to qualify for the 2026 Olympic Games in big-mountaineering. The 29-year-old athlete finished 16th in the qualification.

On Thursday, February 6, the first qualifying competitions among snowboarders took place. 30 athletes took part in the selection in the big air discipline. According to the results of the competitions, 12 athletes were determined who will compete for awards in the final part.

One of the contenders for the 2026 Olympic Games big-mountaineering final was Norwegian snowboarder Mons Reisland. The 29-year-old snowboarder came into the competition as the silver medalist at the 2022 Games.

After his first attempt, Reisland was in third place with 86.75 points. However, during his second attempt, the Norwegian suffered a fall, which ultimately cost him the points he needed.

In his third attempt, Reisland scored 71.25 points for his performance and finished the qualification with a score of 158.00 points. With this score, the 29-year-old athlete took 16th place, and the gap from the qualifying place of 12th was 5 points.

“I just underestimated the level that would be at the Olympics. It was just incredible,” said Reisland.

In addition to Reislann, two-time world champion Marcus Cleveland failed to reach the final of the 2026 Olympic Games in bigeye, stopping one step short of the final, taking 13th place in the final.

Three-time Olympic medalist Mark McMorris was unable to participate in the big-air qualifying competition, as he fell during training before the selection and the Canadian national team coaching staff was forced to withdraw him from the competition.

The 2026 Olympic Games biathlon final will take place on Saturday, February 7, and the competition will take place at 8:30 p.m. Kyiv time.
