Ukrainian basketball player Shulga will sign a 2-year contract with the Boston Celtics

Ukrainian defender Maksym Shulga will sign a two-year standard contract with the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association, ESPN reported.

Signing a standard contract with the Boston Celtics will allow Schulz to train and get practice with the main team. In addition, the Ukrainian defender can also continue to play in the G-League, if the coaching staff makes such a decision.

In 2025, Shulga was selected with the 57th overall pick in the second round of the draft by the Orlando Magic, from whom he was immediately traded to the Boston Celtics. After playing in the NBA Summer League, the Ukrainian signed a two-way deal that allows him to combine appearances at the G-League (formerly the Development League) level with limited appearances for the first team in the NBA.

During the season, Shulga played four times for the Boston Celtics' main team in NBA matches, spending an average of one and a half minutes on the court, but was not noted for his effective actions.

During the 2025/26 season in the G-League, the Ukrainian played 23 games, in which he averaged 16.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 7.1 assists. Shulga also made 39.9% of three-point shots, spending an average of 34.5 minutes per game on the court.

In the 2025/26 season, the Boston Celtics are in second place in the NBA Eastern Conference, with 44 wins in 67 games. They are four wins behind the Detroit Pistons.

The Boston Celtics will play their next NBA game on Tuesday night, March 17, against the Phoenix Suns, with the game set to kick off at 1:30 a.m. Kyiv time.
