
The Ukrainian national ice hockey team played the first match of the third part of the European Nations Cup. The “blue and yellow” lost to the Great Britain team in overtime.
In the debut round of the newly established European Cup of Nations in hockey, Ukraine won four out of five matches. The only defeat in the November mini-tournament was inflicted on the national team by Lithuania — 1:2.

The first opponent of the Ukrainian national team in the third part of the European Nations Cup was the Great Britain national team, which reached the elite division of the World Cup. The last time the teams played each other at the previous World Cup was in April 2025, when the regular time of the match ended with a score of 3:3, and the British celebrated the victory in the shootout.
How did the match between the national teams of Ukraine and Great Britain go?
- The Ukrainian national team managed to open the scoring in the match at the end of the first period. In the 14th minute, striker Oleksandr Peresunko managed to put his team ahead.
- At the start of the second period, Ukraine doubled their lead over their opponents thanks to Viktor Zakharov's goal. However, Great Britain was able to score the majority of the goals on the ice in the 10th minute: forward Logan Neilson scored the goal for Ukraine. Six minutes later, another forward Patrick Larkin tied the score in the match.
- As a result, the match ended in a 2-2 draw at full time and the outcome of the match had to be decided in overtime. The Great Britain team managed to snatch victory in the first minute of overtime.

In the third part of the European Nations Cup, the Ukrainian national team has two more matches scheduled. On Friday, February 6, the “blue and yellow” will meet Poland, and on February 7 they will play against another participant in the elite division of the World Cup, Slovenia.
