The draw for the WTA 1000 tennis tournament in Miami took place. According to its results, three Ukrainian representatives received their first opponents in the main draw of the competition.
The Miami tournament is the second consecutive WTA 1000 hard court event after the Indian Wells tournament. This year, Ukraine will be represented by four tennis players at the Miami tournament: Yulia Starodubtseva will start the competition in qualifying, while Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk and Dayana Yastremska have entered the main draw of the tournament. In particular, Svitolina and Kostyuk, as seeds, will start the competition in the second round.
Ukrainian tennis players at the tournament in Miami: what is known?
- Yulia Starodubtseva in In the first round of qualifying, she will play against Australian Maddison Inglis. This will be the third meeting for the tennis players – the Ukrainian won both previous matches, which took place in 2024.
- Dayana Yastremska will start her “thousandth” in Miami from the first round. Her opponent is American Ashlyn Kruger, who received a wildcard from the organizers. If Yastremska wins, she will advance to the second round against 25th seed Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia.
- Ukraine's top seed Elina Svitolina will start her second round as the ninth seed. In the round of 32, Svitolina will play against the winner of the match between Australian Emerson Jones, who received a wildcard from the organizers, and one of the qualifiers.
- Marta Kostyuk will also start directly from the second round. As the 27th seed in the tournament, the Ukrainian awaits the winner of the pair Solana Sierra (Argentina) – Jacqueline Cristian (Romania).
The first round of singles matches will be held on March 17-18. The second round matches are scheduled for March 19-20.
