Three Ukrainian tennis players have received opponents at the start of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells: who will they play against and when

The main draw for the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells took place. Following the results, three Ukrainian tennis players learned their potential opponents.

Three Ukrainian tennis players have entered the main draw of the tournament: Elina Svitolina, Marta Kostyuk, and Dayana Yastremska. Svitolina and Kostyuk will start their performances in the second round of the competition as seeded athletes, while Yastremska will play in the first round of the tournament.

Ukrainian tennis players at the tournament in Indian Wells: what is known?

  • Elina Svitolina entered the tournament as the ninth seed. The Ukrainian will start her participation in the “thousandth” in the second round, and her opponent will be the winner of the match between Croatia's Petra Marcinko and Germany's Laura Siegemund.
  • Svitolina will be participating in the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells for the 12th time in her career. The best result of the Ukrainian number one is reaching the semifinals in 2019.
  • Marta Kostyuk has also been seeded for the tournament. The Ukrainian will face the winner of the pair in the second round, where Marie Bouzkova from the Czech Republic will compete against one of the qualifiers.
  • Kostyuk will play in the Indian Wells tournament for the sixth time in her career. In 2024, the Ukrainian tennis player showed her best result, reaching the semifinals.
  • Dayana Yastremska will play against Chinese player Zhang Shuai in the first round. Before that, the tennis players met four times in head-to-head matches, in which Shuai was stronger three times and the Ukrainian won only once. The winner of the match between Yastremska and Shuai will meet with Filipino tennis player Alexandra Eala in the second round.
  • This is Yastremska's seventh appearance at Indian Wells. She reached the third round for the first time in 2025.

The first round matches of the WTA 1000 tournament are scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, and the tournament will last until March 15.
