Pole vaulter Armand Duplantis has set a new world record with a jump of 6.31 meters. The Olympic champion achieved this at his home competition in Uppsala, Sweden.
Duplantis opened the season with a victory in Clermont-Ferrand, France, where he jumped 6.06 meters. The Swede's next start was at his home indoor tournament in Uppsala, which bears Duplantis's name – the Mondo Classic.
The Swede started the competition with a 5.65-meter bar, missed the next height and jumped 5.90. At the six-meter height, which Duplantis also missed, four pole vaulters finished the competition. Only Sondre Guttormsen took it, although he did not conquer the 6.08 bar, while Duplantis won the “gold” of the tournament with his jump.
The Swede's next height was 6.31 meters, which he took, for the first time in 2026, updating the world record . This is the 15th world record in Mondo's career, four of which he set last year. In particular, the previous record (6.30 meters) was set by Duplantis in the final of the World Athletics Championships in 2025.
Mondo is breaking the world record in Sweden for the second time in his career. He previously achieved this in June 2025, when he cleared 6.28 m in Stockholm at the Diamond League stage.
“If you come to Sweden to compete with me, it will be even harder to beat me, I have a lot of emotions right now. I felt a little extra pressure because I want to perform differently, but to set a world record here was just incredible,” Duplantis told SVT Sport.
“This is my home. Every time I stand on the track, I represent Sweden and I feel great pride jumping for it. I am so proud to be able to do this in front of you. I jump for myself and my family, but also for you, Sweden and everyone who supports me,” Duplantis was quoted as saying by AFP.
Duplantis has been the undisputed world record holder in the pole vault since 2020. He set his first record with a jump of 6.17 meters. The Swede also maintains an unbeaten streak in international tournaments – his last defeat was at the Diamond League stage in Monaco in 2023.
