The Spanish and Portuguese national teams have made it to the final of the 2026 UEFA Futsal Championship. The semi-final matches of the tournament took place on Wednesday, February 4.
All four semi-finalists — Portugal, Spain, France and Croatia — were undefeated en route to the semi-finals, with the French team defeating Ukraine 4-2 in extra time in the quarter-finals.
How the semi-finals went
- Spain led Croatia 2-0 after the first half. The score remained the same until the 37th minute, when Mario Rivillos scored an own goal, but Spain held on to a narrow advantage in the final minutes.
“This is the semi-final, and we knew it would be very difficult. But we achieved the main goal – reaching the final. I always say that nowadays all teams are competitive and can create difficulties. [The Croats] haven't lost for a very long time, and it wasn't easy to get this victory,” admitted Spanish futsal player Meyado.
- Croatia have had a 10-match unbeaten run in official matches (eight wins and two draws). The team last lost to Argentina at the 2024 World Cup (0-2), and if they win the bronze medal final, they will break their national record at the tournament.
- Defending champions Portugal were left with a three-goal lead against France, the third time the team has faced this tournament. Frenchman Mamadou Toure put his team ahead in the sixth minute.
- The French lead lasted 12 minutes before Portugal scored twice in each half (the last one an own goal by Amin Gueddura) and secured a convincing, strong-willed victory on their way to the final.
- The French also had a 10-match unbeaten streak in official games. Their last loss was to Ukraine, 1:7, in the match for the bronze medal at the 2024 World Cup.
