Snowboarder Fukada brings Japan its first-ever Olympic gold medal in slopestyle

Japan won the 2026 Olympics medal standings in snowboarding.

The snowboarding competition at the 2026 Olympic Games has concluded. 11 sets of medals were played in its events. The victory in the last start – in women's slopestyle – was won by Japanese Mari Fukada.

In the slopestyle qualification, Fukada placed seventh with a best jump of 71.03 points, 17.05 points behind qualification winner and reigning Olympic champion Zoe Sadowski-Sinnott.

However, in the dramatic final, the Japanese snowboarder edged the New Zealander by 0.35 points and snatched her debut “gold” of the Olympics. The “bronze” in the women's slopestyle was also won by Japan's Kokomo Murase, who received 85.80 points for her best attempt and won her second medal of the 2026 Games.

Fukada won Japan's first Olympic slopestyle gold medal . Her victory was only the second for a Japanese woman in snowboarding at the Games, following Kokomo Murase's win in the big-mountain event at the 2026 Olympics.

At the 2026 Olympics, Japan became the absolute winner of the snowboarding medal standings with nine awards. This is a record result for the country in this sport at the Games, before that Japan won a maximum of three medals in 2014 and 2022.

In total, the team finished the competition with a record four gold medals – before that, Japan had only one gold medal in its entire history, which was won by Ayumu Hirano in the halfpipe at Beijing 2022.
