Sidney Crosby out for a month after participating in the 2026 Olympics with Team Canada

Canada's national hockey team captain Sidney Crosby will not play in NHL games for the next four weeks due to an injury he suffered at the 2026 Olympics, according to the official website of the Pittsburgh Penguins, for which he plays.

Crosby was injured in Team Canada's quarterfinal match against the Czech Republic at the 2026 Olympic Games. Without him, the Canadians reached the final, where they lost to the United States.

After Crosby returned from the Olympics, the team announced that he would miss at least four weeks. The nature of the injury was not specified, but Crosby himself said that he had never suffered this type of injury before in his career.

For Crosby, the Games in Milan were the second of his career. He first played in the home Olympics in 2010, when he and his team became champions – then he scored the winning goal in overtime. Overall, the Olympics in Milan were the first since 2014, in which hockey players from the NHL took part.

Crosby has played for the Pittsburgh Penguins since his NHL debut in the 2005/06 season. Together with the team, he won the Stanley Cup three times – in 2009, 2016 and 2017.

In the 2025/26 season, Crosby played for the Penguins in 56 games, scoring 27 goals and providing 32 assists.

The Penguins are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings, having won 29 of 27 matches.
