“It felt good.” Breezy Johnson becomes first American Olympic downhill champion in 16 years

American alpine skier Breezy Johnson brought the United States its first Olympic “gold” in downhill in 16 years — since Lindsey Vonn's triumph at the 2010 Games.

The women's downhill final took place on the second day of the 2026 Olympic Games. 36 athletes competed, of which only 32 made it to the finish line. Among those who did not finish was legendary alpine skier Lindsey Vonn, who fell after the first turn.
