“Now I want to break the world record. It would be great to do it in Italy – maybe at the Diamond League stage in Rome. This result was waiting for me. We are working on it.”
“I'm never satisfied, even if I win. I can always do better. A few weeks ago, my coach and I were thinking about not coming here and starting right away with the outdoor season.”
Diaz managed to win the World Championship in only his second start of the season. On March 1, the 30-year-old athlete took part in the Italian Championship, where he eventually took second place.
Overall, this is Diaz's second World Indoor Championships medal, and both medals are gold. He won his first World Championship victory at last year's competition.
