“I gave everything to the sport.” Former world number seven Goffin announced his retirement at the end of the season

Former world number seven David Goffin has announced his retirement after the 2026 season. The tennis player announced this on his social media.

In 2026, Goffin took part in four tournaments: three Challengers and once at the Indian Wells Grand Slam. In all matches, the 35-year-old Belgian was eliminated in the first round. In four matches, Goffin won two sets.

“Some decisions stay with you forever. I gave everything to this sport, and tennis gave me more than I could have expected. The matches, the confrontations, the wins, the losses, the emotions and the people who were a part of it all. And that's why this is one of the most difficult decisions I've ever made. This season will be my last,” the video on Goffin's page says.

During his professional career, Goffin has won six ATP titles. The 35-year-old tennis player also has a finalist in the 2019 Finals. Goffin has reached the Davis Cup final twice with the Belgian national team.

The biggest achievements in Goffin's career at Grand Slams are reaching the quarterfinals of the 2017 Australian Open, 2016 Roland Garros, and Wimbledon in 2019 and 2022.

In the updated ATP rankings, Goffin is ranked 156th. His best result was seventh in November 2017.
