Great Britain wins first-ever mixed skeleton tournament at 2026 Olympics

The first-ever mixed skeleton medal event was held at the 2026 Olympic Games. Tabitha Stocker and Matt Weston (Great Britain) were crowned champions.

The first Brit to start the competition was Stoker, who rounded out the top 5 in the women's individual competition. The skeleton athlete was second for most of the distance, but crossed the finish line in 1:00.77 minutes – fourth.

Weston, the new Olympic champion among men, managed to catch up. At all checkpoints, Matt showed the best time – and “brought” German Axel Jungk by 0.35 seconds.

With a total time of 1:59.36 minutes, Great Britain beat two German tandems to the podium: “silver” went to Suzanne Kroeger and Axel Jungk, “bronze” to Jacqueline Pfeiffer and Christopher Groeter.

By becoming the first Olympic mixed doubles champions, the Stoker and Weston tandem also set several records for Great Britain at the 2026 Olympics:

  • Great Britain won two gold medals in one day at the Winter Olympics for the first time, as did Charlotte Banks and Hugh Nightingale in the mixed snowboard cross event.
  • For the first time in the history of the Winter Olympics, Great Britain won three gold medals (so far, no more than one).
  • With victories in the individual and mixed events, Weston became the first British skeleton athlete to win two Olympic gold medals.

The mixed team completed the skeleton competition program at the 2026 Games. The medal standings in this sport were won by Great Britain – two golds; another victory in the women's tournament was celebrated by Austrian Jeanine Flock.
