Isobel Louison-Rue has already jumped 1.95 m and is claiming the record of Eleanor Patterson.
The Australian track and field team has added another contender for the top spot in the high jump. In late January, 18-year-old Isobel Louison-Rue came within a step of setting the national junior record.
Louison-Rou is one of the younger generation of high jumpers. Two years ago, at the Junior World Championships (under 20), the Australian won a silver medal, and she did it at the age of 17. Last year, Louison-Rou continued to compete mainly in junior tournaments, but this year she plans to make her full debut at the highest adult level.
The 18-year-old Australian took her first step at the championships held in Canberra. Louison-Rou finished it not only with a victory, but also in a very convincing style: she was 18 (!) centimeters ahead of her closest pursuer. And she finished the competition with a result of 1.95 m.
With a performance of 1.95 m, Louison-Rue stopped one step short of the Australian junior national record, which belongs to Eleanor Patterson, one of Yaroslava Maguchykh's rivals in international competitions.
“1.95m was the target for this year's competition. I'm very pleased that I managed to reach that mark so early,” the Australian said in a comment to Australian Athletics.
With a bar of 1.95 m, Louison-Rou not only updated her personal record – she brought herself closer to performing at the Commonwealth Games. Competitions held between countries, most of which were formerly part of the British Empire .
“It opened up further prospects for competing at the Commonwealth Games. That's the goal I'm currently pursuing,” the 18-year-old Australian added.
