Germany will hold the first stage of the biathlon COP after the Olympics with a reduced squad: how it was explained

The German biathlon team has announced the squad for the World Cup stage in Kontiolahti. The Ski Federation announced this on social media.

The German biathlon team at the 2026 Olympic Games won only one award: they finished third in the mixed relay at the start of the Olympics.

The stage in Kontiolahti will be Germany's first after the departure of the long-time team leader and current owner of the Great Crystal Globe: Franziska Preuss ended her professional career following the 2026 Olympics.

The German national team has announced ten athletes for the World Cup stage in Kontialahti: five each in the men's and women's teams.

  • Women: Selina Grotian, Vanessa Voigt, Julia Tannheimer, Janina Gettich-Waltz, Marlene Fichtner
  • Men: Philipp Horn, Philipp Navrath, Lukas Fratzscher, David Zobel, Leonhard Pfund

Justus Strelow has been ruled out of the German men's team after suffering a broken finger during training. Anna Weidel will also miss the World Cup in Finland after falling ill after the Olympics.

The German national team was unable to register biathletes for the IBU Cup, as the Cup stage is taking place in Lake Placid, USA, which overlaps with the competition schedule in Kontiolahti.
