The Georgian national basketball team won its first victory in the 2027 World Cup qualifying tournament, defeating Denmark. The third round match in Group A ended with a score of 89:71 in favor of the Georgian basketball players.
For both teams, this match was of fundamental importance in the context of the fight for passage to the next round of the competition. Before this round, both Denmark and Georgia had two losses in their opening matches to the group leaders – Spain and Ukraine.

According to FIBA regulations, the top three teams in each group will advance to the second round of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. With Spain and Ukraine currently leading the standings, the head-to-head match between Denmark and Georgia determined the current contender for third place in Group A.
Georgia managed to seize the initiative in the second quarter thanks to more efficient play – they went into the big break with a +7 advantage. The third 10-minute period was key, in which the Georgians crushed their opponents with a 23-point advantage.
The Danes tried to close the gap and even outscored the Georgians in the fourth quarter with a score of 24:12. However, a series of effective attacks by the Georgian leaders allowed the guests to maintain their advantage and win by 18 points.
Tornike Shengelia was the top scorer for Georgia with 24 points and 8 rebounds, while Tobias Jensen led Denmark with 15 points.
