
On the “zero” day of the 2026 Olympic Games, the first figure skating competitions took place – part of the team tournament.
The team figure skating tournament consists of men's and women's singles, pairs, and ice dancing. Skaters perform both programs (short and free), after which their scores are summed up to determine the medalists of the Games among the teams.

The best result in the rhythmic dance was demonstrated by American figure skaters Madison Chock and Evan Bates. The reigning Olympic champions received a score of 91.06 points for their performance, ahead of their closest competitors, Laurence Fournier-Baudry and Guillaume Cizeron, by 1.08 points.

In the pairs event, the top score went to 2022 Olympic silver medalists Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara from Japan. The Asians were 5.30 points ahead of their closest competitors, Anastasia Metolkina and Luka Berulava from Georgia, while the Italian duo of Sara Conti and Niccolo Macchia rounded out the top three.

The best result in the short program was shown by another Japanese woman, two-time Olympic medalist Kaori Sakamoto. She managed to beat the reigning world champion Alice Liu, as well as Lara Gutmann from Italy.

The United States leads the team standings with 25 points, two points ahead of Japan, while Italy is third with 22 points.
