European Gymnastics Federation votes to lift sanctions on Russians and Belarusians after World Gymnastics decision

The European Gymnastics Federation (European Gymnastics) has voted to lift all sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes, the organization's official website reports.

Following an online meeting on May 21, the organization held a 48-hour vote, which resulted in European Gymnastics joining the world governing body World Gymnastics in lifting all sanctions on Russians and Belarusians.

The continental federation explained this by saying that World Gymnastics' precautionary measures after the decision of May 18 are no longer in effect. European Gymnastics must ratify the relevant changes at an extraordinary online meeting of the organization's General Assembly.

Since mid-May, World Gymnastics has allowed athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus to compete without the restrictions that have been in place since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine: with the use of state symbols, such as anthems and flags, in all disciplines and international starts under the auspices of the organization.
