Disqualification and double podium for the Netherlands. Dramatic final determined the winner of the 500m short track speed skating race

The men's short track speed skating competition was held at the 2026 Olympic Games. The results determined the Olympic medalists in the 500 m distance.

Following the results of the semifinals, five athletes advanced to the A final, where they had to determine the winners of the 500 m race. Five more athletes competed in the B final for places from 6th to 10th.

The first to compete were the athletes in the B final, which was ultimately won by Chinese skater Liu Shaoan, who in 2022 became the winner of the Olympic Games at this distance.

In the A final, Canadian skater Stephen Dubois won, beating Dutch pair Jens and Melle van't Wout. Dubois won his fifth Olympic medal and his second in 2026, adding a gold to his silver in the mixed relay.

At the same time, the result of another Canadian skater, William Dungin, was disqualified for violating the rules – he took the final fifth place.
