World number two Carlos Alcaraz will miss Roland Garros due to a wrist injury, the Spanish tennis player announced on Instagram.
Alcaraz suffered the injury at the Barcelona tournament, where he started the first round with a three-set win over Finland's Otto Virtanen. The Spaniard has since withdrawn from the tournament in mid-April and will also miss the Madrid Masters.
In addition to Roland Garros, Alcaraz will also miss the Rome Masters in mid-May. The tennis player will not return to the courts until early June, when the grass-court season on the men's tour starts after Roland Garros.
“Following the results of the tests, we decided that the wisest thing to do is to be cautious and not participate in [tournaments in] Rome or Roland Garros while we wait to assess progress to decide when to return to the court. This is a difficult time for me, but I am sure that we will come out of it stronger,” Alcaraz said.
After making his debut at the French Open in 2021, Alcaraz has not missed any of the five subsequent editions of Roland Garros. Since then, he has won the tournament twice, in 2024 and 2025.
Roland Garros remains the most successful Grand Slam in the career of the seven-time champion of the series. It was in Paris that he won the most matches among all majors – 25 victories. At Roland Garros, in particular, the Spaniard's debut at the Grand Slam level took place – in the 2020 season qualifiers.
Alcaraz will also end his streak of 12 consecutive Grand Slam titles. The Spaniard won the last two titles of the most prestigious series – at the 2025 US Open and the 2026 Australian Open.
Last year at Roland Garros, Alcaraz repeated the achievement of Swiss Roger Federer, twice reaching the final after losing in the first set.
