Canada's comeback, Switzerland and Slovakia continue winning streaks: 2026 World Hockey Championship results and standings

The seventh day of the group round of the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship took place, featuring four elite division matches.

Some of the favorites and current leaders of the main round played their matches on Thursday, May 21: Canada, Switzerland and Finland met with Norway, Latvia and Great Britain. Slovakia could also develop a successful start to the 2026 World Cup in a match with the Danes.

How the seventh day of the 2026 World Ice Hockey Championship went

  • Canada pulled off a spectacular comeback against Norway. Trailing three times during the game, the Olympic vice-champions managed to claw back a goal with a minute and a half left in regulation time and force the game into overtime, which they closed with just 30 seconds left in the game — a strong-willed 6:5.
  • Finland, on the other hand, scored seven goals against Latvia — 7:1. Despite the crushing result of the match, it was the Latvians who opened the scoring first after just 10 seconds of playing time, after which they conceded three goals each in the first and final periods.
