A super-fast race and the fifth best result in history: the men's 800m final in Ostrava ended with a series of records

One competition record, as well as three national records.

The Golden Tour Indoor Championships were held in Ostrava, with top athletes taking part. In particular, Mattia Furlani won the super-tight long jump final, while the continental record that had stood for 38 years was broken in the 400-meter run.

The men's 800-meter final was no less eventful in terms of records. The main contender for victory was Belgian Eliot Crestan, the current world indoor vice-champion. Last year, the runner triumphed with a competition record and was aiming to defend his champion status.

This year, the men's 800m final was a dramatic affair. Poland's Maciej Wiederka was the leader on the final lap, but Krestan managed to overtake him. At the finish, the Belgian runner showed a time of 1:43.83 minutes – for the second time in a row, he updated the competition record, and immediately took a second off the previous top result.

In addition to breaking the event record, Crestan also became the fourth fastest indoor 800m runner in history. The record in this race has been held since the beginning of the year by Josh Goey, who showed a time of 1:42.50 minutes.
