In Transcarpathia, a five-month-old infant passed away in the intensive care ward of a regional pediatric hospital subsequent to being admitted with a cough. The police are probing the situation under the article pertaining to incorrect fulfillment of professional responsibilities by physicians.

The parents of the infant sought help at the Zakarpattia regional children’s hospital, mentioning a cough. Nonetheless, within several hours, the five-month-old infant succumbed in the intensive care department. Law enforcement personnel are ascertaining the circumstances of the event, as indicated by the Main Department of the National Police of the Zakarpattia region and the Zakarpattia regional prosecutor’s office, UNN reports.
At approximately 8 p.m. on January 23, the boy was taken to the hospital due to his deteriorating health condition and cough. The parents brought the child to the emergency room. According to their account, there were no prior issues with the baby’s health.

A number of hours after the infant’s arrival at the healthcare institution, the baby’s state of health rapidly declined, and he was moved to the intensive care unit. After midnight, physicians declared the five-month-old child deceased; the 21-year-old father informed the police.
Law enforcement relays that the infant was born prematurely, and as such, had previously undergone extended treatment for breathing complications.
Presently, investigators have initiated criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – inappropriate execution of professional duties by a healthcare provider, resulting in grave consequences in the form of mortality.
Furthermore, a forensic medical assessment has been mandated in connection with the matter. Law enforcement officials are retrieving records from the hospital, carrying out interviews, and have arranged for a clinical expert commission.
