In Sumy, an accusation has been leveled against a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology at the regional perinatal center regarding the passing of a 27-year-old woman during delivery. Under the supervision of juvenile prosecutors from the Sumy District Prosecutor’s Office, an obstetrician-gynecologist from the local perinatal center was notified of suspicion on February 25, 2026.

As per initial information, a 27-year-old woman, 39 weeks pregnant, was admitted to the aforementioned healthcare facility. Due to medical necessities, she underwent a cesarean section the subsequent day, resulting in the safe delivery of a healthy baby boy.
Nevertheless, during the surgical procedure, the attending physician did not adequately tighten the sutures, subsequently neglecting to sufficiently control the cessation of blood flow, ultimately precipitating severe hemorrhage caused by internal abdominal bleeding.
On November 15, 2024, at 2:26 p.m., following attempts at resuscitation, the woman was declared deceased post-delivery.
According to expert evaluations obtained by the pre-trial investigators in February 2026, there was a noted flaw in the stitching procedure; the patient’s demise potentially could have been prevented with prompt diagnosis and the provision of skilled medical assistance following childbirth. The newborn infant has lost his closest relation – his mother – in the initial hours of life. He is currently 1 year and 3 months old, and lives with his father. The ongoing preliminary investigation is being conducted by investigators within the Sumy District Police Department of the Main Police Department in the Sumy region.
