In the Zhytomyr region, on the 9th of February, the operator of a Mercedes-Benz struck a person walking on the Kyiv-Chop motorway. The injured party passed away en route to the medical facility, and law enforcement is probing the situation.

Based on police information, the event occurred on February 9 at approximately 7:30 PM on the 204th kilometer of the Kyiv-Chop route, in proximity to the village of Kamiany Maidan, Zvyahelsky district.
“Initial findings indicate that the person driving the Mercedes-Benz, a 49-year-old resident of Kyiv, was traveling towards the city of Zhytomyr. On an area of the road lacking illumination, he struck a 60-year-old local from the community who was in the process of crossing. Tragically, due to the occurrence, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries during conveyance to the hospital,” stated the police.
“According to the conclusions of a preliminary alcohol assessment, the individual at the wheel of the vehicle was not under the influence of alcohol,” authorities mentioned.
It is worth mentioning that a pre-trial inquiry has been commenced under Clause 2 of Article 286 (Breach of regulations pertaining to road safety or the operation of transportation by individuals controlling vehicles) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The determination of all underlying causes and factors concerning the event remains in progress.
The founder of the investment enterprise Concorde Capital, Ihor Mazepa, also announced the incident on the Zhytomyr roadway.
“Regrettably, I find myself obligated to disclose an automotive event in which I was a participant. On February 9, while heading back to Kyiv, I was involved in an accident on the Zhytomyr highway that included a third party. The particulars surrounding the event will be shared subsequently. To avoid any potential misrepresentations, I want to state that I was not fatigued, had not ingested any driver-prohibited substances – a fact corroborated by a medical evaluation on the scene – and had not disobeyed any traffic laws. I am cooperating fully with the inquiry. I will furnish all specifics somewhat later,” posted Igor Mazepa on the Facebook platform.
