In Kherson, law enforcement agents have pinpointed individuals implicated in the functioning of a chamber of torture that Russian occupying forces established back in 2022 within the cellar of a seized edifice in the city’s core. This information was disseminated by the Prosecutor General’s Office, UNN reports.

Details

Per the inquiry, civilians were confined within the basement in gloomy and unhygienic settings – lacking beds, with very limited lavatory access. Individuals were shackled to heating units and essentially cut off from the world.

Those unlawfully held were subjected to acts of physical and mental cruelty. They were tormented via electrical shocks, mock executions, and menaces of sexual assault, all aimed at coercing admissions of purported alignment with Ukrainian law enforcement bodies.

The investigation determined that in the summer of 2022, a pair of men willingly enlisted in a framework crafted by the occupation administration, mirroring the FSB of the Russian Federation. They assumed roles in the “special operations” and “inter-district department” divisions, dedicating themselves to recognizing and oppressing pro-Ukrainian inhabitants.

In July 2022, the Russian armed forces abducted a nearby dweller. During questioning sessions, he faced death threats and a simulated firing squad. Afterward, the man was kept in the dungeon of a torture site for over a month. According to information from the prosecutor’s office, the individual frequently fainted due to mistreatment. By mid-August, he was transported and abandoned on one of the town’s roads.

Another resident of Kherson was apprehended in September. He was assaulted, electrically shocked, and compelled to admit to initiating missile attacks aimed at the metropolis.

With the procedural direction of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office, both members associated with the occupying structure were formally notified in absentia on suspicion of national betrayal, involvement in an unlawful armed body, and inhuman conduct against the civilian populace.

We will remind you

Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Ruslan Kravchenko, conveyed that the Special Tribunal will acquire all documentation stemming from criminal cases pertaining to Russian wartime transgressions. This matter holds strategic importance for Ukraine to ensure the Russian leadership is held responsible.
