In the Vinnytsia district, a 64-year-old individual plummeted through the frozen surface of the Southern Buh River while angling alongside his offspring. The son attempted to rescue his parent, yet was unsuccessful; he independently made it back to land.

On Thursday, January 29th, a 64-year-old individual perished in the Vinnytsia province, having sunk below the ice. The incident took place in the municipality of Ladyzhyn, situated on the Southern Buh River, UNN conveys with reference to the State Emergency Management of Ukraine.

Per data from the State Emergency Department, the man and his 17-year-old son had gone to engage in fishing. Sadly, the ice gave way, leading to the man falling into the water.

The son endeavored to save his father, but his efforts proved futile. The young man managed to swim back to the bank independently and summoned assistance.

Rescue divers from the State Emergency Organization are currently involved in the search operation for the man.

The State Emergency Authority had previously cautioned that temperatures would be rising across Ukraine, consequently weakening the ice on bodies of water further. They also noted that, since the commencement of 2026, 13 individuals, including one minor, have already lost their lives in water-related incidents.
