Chernihiv arms fair grenade launcher incident in ’22: Two soldiers convicted.

For breaches of weapons protocols, a pair of military personnel received prison terms of 5 and 6 years. Back in September of 2022, they permitted a youngster to discharge a grenade launcher at an exhibition in Chernihiv, resulting in injuries to five individuals, including four minors.

The unfortunate event took place in September 2022 at a charitable presentation where the military demonstrated weapon samples. The probe determined that one of the service members had placed an unguided anti-tank grenade on display, which was not even documented correctly – its mechanical state was not evaluated.

During the demonstration, another service member readied the grenade launcher and, failing to recognize the hazard, passed it to a child, allowing the youngster to activate the firing mechanism.

A discharge was triggered, and a detonation occurred. Five individuals sustained injuries, with youngsters making up four of the injured. One young male suffered considerable harm.

The judiciary deemed both service members culpable of contravening the guidelines for weapon handling (Part 2 of Article 414 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), issuing them actual prison sentences of 5 and 6 years.
