Zelensky: Ukraine counts on allied security guarantees

All of Ukraine's allies hope that the negotiations with the American side will be successful. As a result, Ukraine should receive security from its partners.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this at a briefing, answering a question about his confidence in the readiness of European countries to provide more significant military assistance to Ukraine and the readiness of the United States to provide security guarantees, Ukrinform reports.

“First of all, everyone hopes that the positive result achieved at the last meeting between Ukraine and the United States will be continued. This will lead to a meeting of allies: Ukraine, America and the US. Everyone expects that security guarantees will be allied – guarantees for Ukraine from the US, the US and others who are ready to support us,” Zelensky noted.

According to the President, Ukraine's European partners are also conducting parallel negotiations with the US administration, discussing the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent.

“Everyone expects that one or another format of the contingent may be proposed. Some are skeptical and believe that NATO or the Fifth Amendment are more important. Here we understand that the decision on NATO should depend on the allies, and not on Russia's wishes and especially not on Russia's “veto” on NATO. They have no legal authority in this matter. We should not allow them to have such an opportunity,” Zelensky emphasized.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, a meeting of US and Ukrainian delegations took place in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) on March 11.

Following the meeting, the parties published a joint statement.

Ukraine expressed its readiness to accept the US proposal to immediately introduce a 30-day temporary ceasefire, which could be extended by mutual agreement, provided that the Russian Federation accepts and simultaneously complies with its terms.
