Zelensky, U.S. Senators discuss situation on battlefield, increased sanctions against Russia

Ukrainian President Vodymyr Zelensky has held a meeting with the United States Senators – Lindsey Graham, Richard Blumenthal and Sheldon Whitehouse, – who are paying a visit to Kyiv.

The relevant statement was made by the Office of the President of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Zelensky thanked the Senators for their help in organizing his December visit to the United States and emphasized that, while in Washington, he felt the strong support of the entire American nation: “I appreciate the organization of this visit. I want to thank all of you, the entire society, all Americans.”

Additionally, the Head of State expressed special gratitude to the United States for the provision of another defense aid package to Ukraine, which was announced the day before.

“It’ll contain the military equipment and ammunition we need. The United States is a leader in this extremely important issue,” Zelensky said.

In the course of the meeting, the President of Ukraine briefed the Senators on the situation on the front line and the steps being taken to counter Russian aggression and liberate all temporarily occupied territories.

Zelensky also mentioned that he had addressed the participants of the Ramstein format meeting and called on the partners to immediately provide Ukraine with the weapons necessary for a quick victory over the aggressor.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on further steps that could contribute to increasing the support for Ukraine from the U.S. Congress. The issue of strengthening sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation was discussed separately, in particular, the recognition of PMC Wagner as a terrorist organization.

The President of Ukraine thanked the Senators for expressing their condences over the tragic event in the Kyiv region’s Brovary, which had killed the t officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and civilians.
