President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected the possibility of creating a “national unity coalition,” saying it is not necessary and would not be useful.
He announced this on March 14, during a conversation with journalists, a correspondent for Suspilny reports.
“A coalition of national unity is when necessary laws or reforms are voted on and implemented that are aimed at national unity, and not at achieving some very narrow political goals during the war,” Zelenskyy said.
According to him, the lack of a coalition does not prevent opposition deputies from voting for bills that are necessary for the IMF, the front, or the functioning of the state.
“But if there were some other political structure called a 'coalition of national unity,' would everyone suddenly start working differently? No. They would work for a month, and then everyone would quarrel among themselves again. This is an inherent feature of parliamentarians. Let them get together, come to their senses a little and start working,” the president notes.
He also commented on the proposal to create a Cabinet of National Unity, which would consist of representatives of different parties. According to him, the current government already has different political representatives.
“For me, it's not a problem – which party a person belongs to. The main thing is that the Cabinet of Ministers works. And these proposals are definitely not aimed at better quality work, and at separation, not at unification,” Zelensky added.
