Zelensky: As long as Ukraine remains outside NATO, appropriate security guarantees are important
Zelensky made these statements at a meeting with the leaders of territorial communities of the Chernihiv region, as reported by Ukrinform.
“You know who currently does not support Ukraine's membership in NATO, but in any case, this issue is not removed from the agenda, it remains in our future. At least, we are saying that if someone does not want to support (Ukraine's membership in the Alliance – ed.) now, we will see what happens later,” Zelensky noted.
He stressed that in the period until Ukraine becomes part of security alliances, it is extremely important to ensure adequate security guarantees.
“It is important that we have appropriate guarantees, similar to the guarantees NATO had before we joined the alliance. This concerns the contingents, as well as the efforts of our partners, which we can really count on,” the president added.

According to him, discussions are currently underway with several countries on the deployment of naval and air contingents. The most difficult aspect of these negotiations is the land component.
“I am confident that we will have some infrastructure to support Western armies after the war ends, and perhaps even in its midst, during the ceasefire,” the head of state emphasized.
He noted that “ultimately we will achieve a just peace.”

“We have many different documents and achievements, but it is important that we approach the negotiations with strong positions,” Zelensky concluded.
As reported, on March 27, a meeting of heads of state took place in Paris, where issues of supporting Ukraine in countering Russian aggression and achieving a fair and sustainable peace were discussed. The agenda also considered the prospects for deploying international deterrent forces in Ukraine.
