Zelensky and Trump begin talks in the Oval Office

As reported by the Ukrinform correspondent, the meeting is taking place with the participation of official delegations of both sides.

The heads of state are expected to discuss the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the possibilities of ending it and establishing peace, as well as the implementation of bilateral cooperation in the development of Ukraine's mineral resources and other issues. Their discussions will continue over a working lunch, which will create conditions for a freer exchange of opinions.

In this regard, the presidents will take part in the signing of a bilateral Agreement concerning the establishment of rules and conditions for the functioning of the Investment Fund for the Reconstruction of Ukraine. Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the decision to sign the Agreement with the US government.

This agreement is of a framework nature, which means that further steps must be worked out by both parties. In the future, the two countries will work on the creation of an investment fund for reconstruction, which will require ratification by the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada).

Following the meeting, the leaders will address journalists.

Before his visit to the United States, Zelensky stressed that it was extremely important for him to hear that US aid will not be suspended either now or in the future.

At the same time, Donald Trump expressed his expectation of a “very good” meeting with Zelensky, emphasizing his respect for the Ukrainian president and their excellent mutual understanding.
