Tetyana Chornovol has not yet become a People's Deputy. The Central Election Commission has extended the deadline for her to submit documents for registration as a People's Deputy by a year. The reason is that she is in military service.
The CEC press service reports this. The politician will run for parliament on the list of the European Solidarity party.
The agency received a statement from Chornovol on Monday, October 6. In it, she explained that there were good reasons that prevented her from submitting the relevant documents within the 20-day period established by law.
Chornovol requested an extension of this period to one year due to her service in the Defense Forces. The Commission found the reasons valid and set a deadline for Chornovol to submit documents – until October 6, 2026 inclusive.
The Central Election Commission recognized Tetyana Chornovol as an elected People's Deputy
The Central Election Commission recognized Tetyana Chornovol as an elected People's Deputy of Ukraine. This happened after they received a document from the Verkhovna Rada apparatus certifying the early termination of the powers of People's Deputy of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy, who was murdered.
As a reminder, on August 30, a member of parliament from the European Solidarity party and former chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Andriy Parubiy, was shot dead in Lviv. The attacker, disguised as a courier, rode up on an electric bicycle and fired several shots, after which he fled. 52-year-old Lviv resident Mykhailo Stelnikov is suspected of the murder. He was charged with premeditated murder and illegal handling of weapons. He was arrested without bail.
The suspect admitted in court that he shot the politician. He called his actions “revenge on the Ukrainian authorities.” However, the man denies information that he acted on the orders of Russian intelligence services, saying that the Russians did not blackmail him.
