Waltz calls return of kidnapped Ukrainian children from Russia 'confidence-building measure'

The United States sees the return of Ukrainian children illegally resettled by Russia as a confidence-building step in ongoing ceasefire talks.

This was announced by US National Security Advisor Mike Walz in an interview with CBS News on March 23, as reported by Ukrinform, citing The Kyiv Independent.

“President Trump has spoken to both leaders about the prisoner exchange. Both the Russians and the Ukrainians have exchanged prisoners, almost 200 people, immediately conveying their message. He also mentioned the future of these children. This is certainly a priority and, in fact, a confidence-building measure,” Walz said.

He once again confirmed Washington's position that the conflicting parties are now closer to peace than ever before.

Walz also mentioned the recent 30-day ceasefire on energy infrastructure and the upcoming ceasefire in the Black Sea, which will allow “both sides to move grain, fuel and resume trade.”

As reported by Ukrinform, on March 23, a Ukrainian delegation led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with representatives of the US administration in Saudi Arabia.

According to Umerov, the conversation was “constructive and meaningful,” as the parties discussed key issues, especially in the energy sector.
